NEW TERMINOLOGY!! - When it says "Produce an extract" that finds certain things it means make a query

Remember a report is just a printed version of a query. When it says make report you import the .CSV into Access, make the query then produce the report.

Remember when importing .CSV files to check "First row contains field names."

If it says import a .CSV (and perhaps you are in Word or Powerpoint) and make a graph then open it up in Excel make the graph and put it into your Word or Power Point document.

QUERYING A DATABASE
Make sure you are searching using the same data as in your table....DO NOT mizspell!

If you need to include any text from a "notes" field and leave out the records that have no notes just put an asterix symbol * in the criteria line. The symbol stands for any letter. You could use it to find any words by putting it at the front of search words.

If you are looking for a word buried in a description of the product - BLUE BIRO SIZE M - you can type on the criteria line *BIRO* (using the asterix symbol) and this will find BIRO. Works well with all these types of text.

When using OR on the query grid keep it on one line such as YELLOW OR BLUE rather than using the other OR on the line below as using this can alter meaning of the query.

If you are looking to search, for example, over various colours and exclude one type NOT before the colour you want to exclude from the search....NOT YELLOW.

If you want to exclude more than one item you have to remember to put NOT before it as well-
NOT BLACK AND NOT BLUE

To find something such as a date between dates you type BETWEEN 10/10/10 AND 12/01/11

> GREATER THAN <LESS THAN <=LESS OR EQUAL TO >=GREATER OR EQUAL TO

.>=1200 AND <=1500
BETWEEN 1000 AND 1500
